Global Thermal Paper Price Rises by 10% in April 2026 Driven by Raw Material and Energy Inflation
2026-06-05
The global thermal paper industry ushered in a new round of comprehensive price adjustments starting from April 1, 2026. Leading international thermal paper manufacturers, including Germany’s Koehler Paper, the United States’ Domtar Corporation, and South Korea’s Hansol Paper, have officially announced a uniform 10% price increase for all grades of thermal paper products worldwide. The price adjustment covers almost all mainstream application categories in the industry, including supermarket POS receipt rolls, logistics shipping thermal labels, commercial office printing paper, medical examination thermal records, and industrial barcode sticker paper, marking the first large-scale global price hike in the thermal paper sector in the second quarter of 2026. Multiple industry analysis institutions pointed out that this round of price increases is not a short-term market fluctuation, but a comprehensive cost-driven adjustment triggered by the superposition of multiple global industrial chain factors.
The core factor driving the price surge is the continuous tension in global crude oil supply caused by escalating Middle East geopolitical conflicts in the first half of 2026. thermal paper production relies heavily on petroleum-based chemical auxiliary materials, including thermal color developing agents, sensitizers, anti-aging coatings, and back adhesive raw materials. The continuous rise in international crude oil prices has directly pushed up the procurement cost of fine chemical raw materials for thermal paper by more than 15% year-on-year. At the same time, global wood pulp prices have maintained a high upward trend. Affected by international forest protection policies, seasonal logging restrictions in Europe and North America, and reduced pulp export capacity in major pulp-producing countries, the price of high-quality bleached wood pulp, the core base material of high-grade thermal paper, has remained high throughout the first and second quarters of 2026, continuously squeezing the profit margin of paper manufacturers.
In addition, rising global energy costs have further increased the production burden of thermal paper factories. European and American manufacturing bases are facing sustained high electricity and natural gas prices, and the unit energy consumption cost of paper production lines has increased significantly. Many overseas factories have reduced their operating rates appropriately to control costs, resulting in a tight global thermal paper supply. As international leading brands take the lead in raising prices, mainstream thermal paper manufacturers in China have also followed the market trend to complete cost-based price adjustments. Industry insiders said that the current market demand for office and logistics thermal paper remains stable and rigid, and the downstream market acceptance of price increases is high. It is expected that the high price operation of thermal paper will continue for the entire second half of 2026, and low-cost conventional thermal paper products will gradually fade out of the mainstream market, while high-quality and environmentally friendly thermal paper products with stable performance will become the mainstream supply of the market.
